Job Readiness

This intensive four-week business etiquette and media arts training program for young adults (ages 17-24) emphasizes the development of the soft skills necessary to obtain and retain jobs.  Through a simulated work environment, participants learn how to dress and speak appropriately and effectively for the workplace, how to follow instructions, accept criticism, and function as team members.  BAI’s job training program stresses accountability, self-presentation, and other qualities that are key to success in the workplace.

The training also begins the process of thinking about job advancement and long-term careers in the media industry.  BAI will provide individuals with life tools that will aid them in navigating their way through difficult situations in the workplace and their own communities with the goal of retaining the first secured employment.

For the team-building component, program participants have the option of learning photography and darkroom skills or film production.

In the photography component, program participants will be taught both the basics of photography, and the workings of the black and white darkroom.  Students will start with no assumed knowledge, and photograph with BAI cameras, then develop the film and make their own black and white prints.  Digital cameras will be provided for each participant.

BAI provides job placement assistance to everyone who completes this 4-week training program.  With a job developer, BAI graduates are guided through the job search process, learning how to effectively market themselves, until they have secured gainful employment.  An exhibition of student works will be mounted during the graduation celebration.
